Dell/EMC’s historic Digital Universe — with research and analysis by IDC Research — is a unique study engineered to quantify and forecast the amount of data generated annually. The program works to communicate on an annual basis the growth of the digital universe, estimated to double in size every two years. It has calculated that by 2020, the data created and copied each year will reach 44 zettabytes, or 44 trillion gigabytes.
Dell/EMC created the study to engage its clients, prospects, and the marketplace on the fast-paced growth of data, its sources, and the challenges created by data growth like increasing information security concerns, managing and organizing the data, and the talent companies need to maximize the value from the data.
The study’s audience is varied. It ranges from IT influencers to the key players in the C-suite and covers a variety of geographic and vertical market analyses. In addition, both Dell/EMC and IDC recognized the need to create an independent visual brand for the report over time, to optimize the conversation with a focus on the insight and knowledge produced by the study.
Over the span of the seven-year study, Dell/EMC and IDC enlisted Cyclone Interactive to develop creative content strategies for the company’s primary communication channels. Throughout that period, Cyclone created web-based data-growth trackers and calculators, reports, videos, infographics, and interactive content, and published multiple IDC iViews (an interactive content solution developed by Cyclone for IDC’s go-to-market suite).
